Crime Scene Investigation
The Newton County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigations is part of the Criminal Investigations Division. Crime Scene Investigators are responsible for documenting crime scenes; identifying, collecting, and preserving evidence. These investigators also process evidence collected and submitted by other divisions of the Sheriff's Office. Investigators assigned to this unit receive specialized training in crime scene processing and evidence collection.
The Newton County Sheriff's Office Evidence and Property Unit is responsible for the control, storage and security of physical evidence and property collected by its personnel in a manner that preserves the item. The department will securely maintain all evidence and property until final disposition.
Evidence includes items of property which have some connection to a crime. Items held as evidence are usually retained until the prosecution of the criminal case has been concluded on all parties involved in the case.
If you have found property, please call the Sheriff's Office as soon as possible.
