Sheriff Ezell Brown
Sheriff Brown has been with the Newton County Sheriff's Office and in law enforcement since 1973. His daily duties consist of fulfilling his constitutional obligations to the citizens of Newton County.
 

Chief Deputy
Jerry Carter

Chief Deputy Carter has been in law enforcement since 1985, and is second in command under the Sheriff. His daily duties consist of overseeing all of the day to day operations of the Sheriff's Office. Chief Carter holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice.
 

Major Morris Jones
Since 1975, Major Jones has served both honorably and faithfully, in various capacities with the Newton County Sheriff's Office. In his current assignment, he has assumed the responsibility of liaison between the Sheriff, Chief Deputy and the Division Commanders.
 

Captain Doug Kitchens
Captain Kitchens has been in law enforcement since 1978. He is currently the Commander of Court Services and training, and is responsible for managing the security function for the Newton County Courthouse, the historic courthouse, and the County Administration Building. In addition to managing Court Services, Captain Kitchens supervises the firearms staff and training division.
 

Captain Marty Roberts
Captain Roberts has been in law enforcement since 1985. He is currently the Commander of the Special Investigations Unit. He is responsible for managing investigations related to narcotics and vice crimes.

Captain Sammy Banks
Captain Banks has been in law enforcement for 29 years and is currently responsible for administering the day to day operations of the Uniform Patrol, Traffic Unit, School Resource Officers,
C.H.A.M.P.S. and Community Outreach.
 

Captain Keith Crum
Captain Crum has been in law enforcement for over 30 years and is currently the Commander of the Criminal Investigation Division, Sex Offender Registration Unit, Office of Professional Standards, Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Crime Suppression Unit and other various programs. Also, he is the Open Records Administrator for the Sheriff's Office.
 

1st Lt. Brice Smith
1st Lt. Smith has been in law enforcement for over 21 years. He is the Commander of the Detention Division. He is responsible for administering the day to day operations of the Detention Center, Work Release/ Road Crew Facility, Inmate Services, Transport Services and Warrant Unit.
 

Lt. Paul Gunter, D.Min
Lt. Gunter has been in law enforcement for 32 years. He is the Agency Training Coordinator for the Sheriff's Office. He is responsible for conducting and scheduling training for all employees of the Sheriff's Office, as well as maintaining accurate records of all training. In addition to his duties as our Training Coordinator, Lt. Gunter is also our Agency Chaplain and supervisor of our Project Lifesaver program.
 

Lt. Charles Ledford
Lt. Charles Ledford has been in law enforcement for 24 years. His daily duties consist of supervising the deputies who are assigned as School Resource Officers in Newton County schools.

Lt. Ken Ridling
Lt. Ridling has provided protection to the citizens of Newton County for 30 years.
He began his career as a member of the Patrol Division, as a Patrol Deputy. Through diligence, dedication and hard work, he attained the rank of Patrol Sergeant, maintaining that status until 2005, when he was appointed as the second in command of the Civil Process Unit. With the retirement of the unit commander, he has assumed the overall command of the unit.
 

Juanita Threadgill
Juanita Threadgill has been with the Sheriff's Office for 23 years. She is the Administrative Supervisor for the Sheriff's Administration. She is responsible for supervising the daily functions of the administrative staff.
 

Apryle Jones
Apryle Jones is the Grant Administrator for the Sheriff's Office. She is responsible for seeking alternate funding opportunities, researching and writing grants. She holds a Bachelors of Social Work (BSW) degree, graduating Cum Laude.
