Sheriff Ezell Brown- Sheriff Brown has been in law enforcement since 1973. He has been with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office most of that time. His daily duties consist of fulfilling his constitutional obligations to the citizens of Newton County. |

Chief Deputy Jerry Carter- Chief Deputy Carter has been in law enforcement since 1985. He is second in command under the Sheriff. His daily duties consist of overseeing all of the day to day operations of the Sheriff’s Office.

Captain Morris Jones-Captain Jones has been in law enforcement since 1974. He is currently the Commander of the Uniform Division. He is responsible for managing Uniform Patrol, the Traffic Unit, Civil Unit, School Resource Officers, C.H.A.M.P.S., Community Outreach, Marine Patrol, and the Sheriff’s Reserve Program.

Captain Doug Kitchens- Captain Kitchens has been in law enforcement since 1978. He is currently the Commander of Court Services and training. He is responsible for managing the security function for the Newton County Courthouse, the historic courthouse, and the County Administration Building. In addition to managing Court Services, Captain Kitchens also supervises the firearms staff and training division.

Captain Marty Roberts-Captain Roberts has been in law enforcement since 1985. He is currently the Commander of the Special Investigations Unit. He is responsible for managing investigations related to narcotics and vice crimes.

Captain Sammy Banks-Captain Banks has been in law enforcement for 29 years. He is currently the Commander of the Detention Division. He is responsible for administering the day to day operations of the Detention Center, Work Release/ Road Crew Facility, Inmate Services, Quartermaster, Transport Services, and the Warrant Unit.

Lt. Keith Crum-Lt. Crum has been in law enforcement since 1974. He is currently the Commander of the Office of Professional Standards. He is responsible for managing the Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs function, State Law Enforcement Certification, grants, public information, open records requests and implementing the Policies and Procedures for the Sheriff’s Office.

1st Lt. Mark Mitchell-
1st Lt. Mitchell has been in law enforcement for 19 years. He is currently the Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division. He is responsible for managing the Criminal Investigations Division, Crime Scene Unit, Evidence Unit, Sex Offender Unit, and Crime Suppression Unit. 1st Lt. Mitchell is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the co-commander of the Covington-Newton County S.W.A.T. team. |

Lt. Paul Gunter,D.Min.-Lt. Gunter has been in law enforcement for 32 years. He is the Agency Training Coordinator for the Sheriff’s Office. He is responsible for conducted and scheduling training for all employees of the Sheriff’s Office, as well as maintaining accurate records of all training. In addition to his duties as our Training Coordinator, Lt. Gunter is also our Agency Chaplain and supervisor of our Project Lifesaver program.

Lt. Charles Ledford- Lt. Charles Ledford has been in law enforcement for 24 years. His daily duties consist of supervising the deputies who are assigned as School Resource Officers in Newton County schools.

Lt. Gary Bradford-Lt. Bradford has been in law enforcement for 30 years. He is in charge of the Civil Unit, which is responsible for serving court orders such as evictions, writs, and temporary protective orders. He is also in charge of organizing the Sheriff’s Offices participation in funeral processions within our county.

Lt. Gwen Hightower -Lt. Hightower has been in law enforcement since 1984. She is currently managing the sex Offender Registration Unit. |

Juanita Threadgill-Juanita Threadgill has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 23 years. She is the Administrative Supervisor for the Sheriff’s Administration. She is responsible for supervising the daily functions of the administrative staff. |
