Parents, our children look forward to Halloween each year for a variety of reasons. First, it gives them an opportunity to dress up as they pretend to be someone else. Secondly, it’s a time to travel throughout the community offering neighbors a chance to “trick or treat” them with candy, cookies and other items.
On behalf of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, I appeal to each of you to help us ensure that this evening of magical “make believe” is one that provides pleasant memories and lives on in the minds and hearts of our youngest residents. We are committed to keeping our streets safe on their behalf; and, we need your help. So, know where your children are “trick or treating”. Be sure to take time to talk to them about safety.
- Keep in mind to instruct older children to take friends when “trick or treating”.
- Make sure children wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight or glow stick when traveling during the evening hours.
- Dress them in colors that can be seen and check all foods before they eat them.
- Accompany or make sure a trusted adult accompanies younger children to the door of every house they approach.
Remember, the safety of our children requires all hands on deck. Enjoy the holiday!
